Mark Center Transit Center- Transit Information

The Mark Center Transit Center is the hub for mass transit and connection points to and from the Mark Center. Please see the additional details below on transit options.

In addition to the many available transit options, the Mark Center provides a private shuttle as part of its Transportation Management Plan (TMP)available to tenants of participating property owners within the Mark Center development.  Please ask your HR department, your landlord representative, or your property manager for details on obtaining a shuttle pass. (Mark Center Shuttle Service has currently been put on hold during the Covid Pandemic.  Mark Center is evaluating the timing and continuation of this service.)

Getting to the Mark Center from Washington, DC

  • • Take I-395 South entering into Virginia
  • • Take Exit #4 for Seminary Road
  • • Turn right at the fork onto Seminary Road (West)
  • • Make left at second traffic light onto N. Beauregard Street
  • • Make left at first traffic light onto Mark Center Drive

Getting to the Mark Center from Virginia I-66 Eastbound

  • • Take I-66 East toward Washington, DC
  • • Take Exit #64-A (I-495 South) toward Richmond/Alexandria
  • • Take Exit #52A-B for Little River Turnpike toward Fairfax/Annandale
  • • Keep left at the fork and follow signs for Little River Turnpike/Annandale
  • • Merge onto Little River Turnpike
  • • Turn left onto Beauregard Street
  • • Turn right onto Mark Center Drive

Getting to the Mark Center from Virginia I-95 Northbound

  • • Take I-95 North toward Washington, DC
  • • Continue onto I-395 North toward Washington, DC
  • • Take Exit #4 (Seminary Road)
  • • Go through first traffic light at the end of the exit ramp
  • • Make left at second light onto Seminary Road

Getting to the Mark Center from Montgomery County, MD

  • • Take I-495 South toward Northern Virginia
  • • Take Exit #52A-B for Little River Turnpike toward Fairfax/Annandale
  • • Keep left at the fork and follow signs for Little River Turnpike/Annandale
  • • Merge onto Little River Turnpike
  • • Turn left onto Beauregard Street
  • • Turn right onto Mark Center Drive

  • • Take I-95/I-495 South toward Alexandria/Richmond

  • The Mark Center Transit Center, created in 2011 to serve new federal employees from the BRAC realignment, features 6 bus stops serving 19 different bus routes, including local DASH to WMATA to commuter buses and private shuttles.     • Physical location of the Transportation Office providing information to Washington Headquarters employees

    Plans

    The City of Alexandria is in the process of developing three transitways that can make bus travel faster and more reliable for passengers. One of which, the West End Transitway, will connect to the Pentagon and Van Dorn Metrorail station. This service is anticipated to begin in 2025.

BY TRAIN or SUBWAY

Virginia Railway Express (VRE)—The VRE operates two commuter rail options servicing Virginia commuters referred to as the Fredericksburg Line and the Manassas Line.

  • Fredericksburg Line —The Fredericksburg Line operates their schedule Monday through Friday (except Holidays) between the Fredericksburg Station located at 200 Lafayette Blvd., Fredericksburg, VA and Union Station in Washington, DC.
  • Manassas Line—The Manassas Line operates their schedule (scroll down to the Manassas Line schedule) Monday through Friday (except Holidays) between the Broad Run Station located at 10637 Piper Lane, Bristow, VA and Union Station in Washington, DC.

Public Transportation Connections from the VRE

  • Alexandria Station—This station is located near the King Street Metro station. Walk under the tracks to arrive at the King Street Metro, then take DASH Bus AT2 or AT2X to the Mark Center.
  • Crystal City Station—This station is located near the Crystal City Metro station. Walk through the Crystal Shops Mall or walk south along Crystal Drive to 18th Street, turn right onto 18th Street, and the Crystal City Metro entrance will be near the top of the hill. Take either the Blue or Yellow line to the Pentagon, then take Metrobus 7M to the Mark Center.

MARC Train—The Maryland Transit Administration operates the MARC Train which services commuters from: Harford County, MD; Baltimore City; Washington DC.; Brunswick, MD; Frederick, MD; and Martinsburg, WV along three routes.

  • Brunswick Line—The Brunswick Line operates their schedule Monday through Friday (except holidays) between Martinsburg, WV and Union Station in Washington, DC.
  • Camden Line—The Camden Line operates their schedule Monday through Friday (except holidays) between the Baltimore/Camden Station in Baltimore, MD and Union Station in Washington, DC.
  • Penn Line—The Penn Line operates their schedule Monday through Friday (except holidays) between Perryville, MD and Union Station in Washington, DC.

Public Transportation Connections from the MARC Train

  • Brunswick Line—transfer points to the Metro Red Line are located at the Rockville, Union Station, and Silver Spring stops. You can then transfer to the Blue Line at Metro Center or the Yellow Line at either Gallery Place/Chinatown or Fort Totten to get to the Pentagon and then take Metro Bus 7M to the Mark Center.
  • Camden Line—a transfer point to the Metro Red Line is located at the Union Station stop. You can then transfer to the Blue Line at Metro Center or the Yellow Line at Gallery Place/Chinatown to get to the Pentagon and then take Metro Bus 7M to the Mark Center.

    Transfer points to the Metro Yellow Line are located at the College Park/University of Maryland and Greenbelt stops with service to the Pentagon and then take Metro Bus 7M to the Mark Center.

  • Penn Line—a transfer point to the Metro Red Line is located at the Union Station stop. You can then transfer to the Blue Line at Metro Center or the Yellow Line at Gallery Place/Chinatown to get to the Pentagon and then take Metro Bus 7M to the Mark Center.

    There is also a transfer point to the Metro Orange Line at New Carrollton then transfer to the Blue Line or Yellow Line at the L'Enfant Metro Station to get to the Pentagon and then take Metro Bus 7M to the Mark Center.

Metrorail
There is no Metrorail option directly to the Mark Center. There are four options available:

  • • Take the Metro to the Pentagon Station then take Metro Bus 7M to the Mark Center
  • • Take the Metro to the King St. Station then take DASH bus AT2 or AT2X to the Mark Center
  • • Take the Metro to the West Falls Church Metro Station then take Metro Bus 28X to the Mark Center
  • • Take the Metro to the Franconia/Springfield Metro Station then take the Mark Center Shuttle. The shuttle is operated by DC Tours and you can board the shuttle from the loading zone just before Bus Bay A.

Ridesharing is one of the most effective ways for employees to find a door-to-door commuting solution and can save costs in the interest of socio-environmental benefits.

  • Arlington County Commuter ServicesCarpool and vanpool information pages help residents of Arlington county to find a ridesharing program which best accommodates them.
  • Commuter Connections—provides rideshare program information for the National Capital Region and beyond.
  • GWRide Connect—provides carpool and vanpool information for commuters living in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline and King George counties to Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.
  • Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC)—provides a ridematching service.
  • Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland—provides carpool and vanpool information for commuters traveling from or to Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s Counties in Maryland..
  • Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority—provides a list of vanpools participating the SmartBenefits® program.
  • Slugging—is a term used to describe a unique form of commuting found in the Washington, DC area sometimes referred to as "Instant Carpooling" or "Casual Carpooling."
  • Bicycle—Commuting to work by bicycle is a excellent way to beat Washington DC's infamous rush hour congestion
  • Zip Cars—is a membership-based car sharing company that provides vehicle reservations to its members, based on hourly and daily rates's request.
  • Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH)—is a free service administered by Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments to provide Washington Metropolitan Area commuters—who regularly carpool, vanpool, bicycle, walk, or take public transit to work—a free ride home in the event of a personal emergency or if they work late at a supervisor’s request.
MARK CENTER PARK EXPRESS SHUTTLE

NOTE:   MARK CENTER SHUTTLE SERVICE IS CURRENTLY NOT IN OPERATION.

Mark Center Express.      

The Mark Center Express Shuttle is a private shuttle provided by the Mark Center for tenants of participating property owners in the Mark Center.  This service is provided by Fleet Transportation LLC.   You must have a shuttle pass to ride.   Please contact your HR department, landlord representative, or your property manager for details on how to obtain a shuttle pass.

COVID-19 NOTICE:  This shuttle bus service is following COVID-19 protocols.   Riders must wear a mask and social distancing rules shall be followed at all time.  We will monitor the state and city guidance with regards to operating this service as safe and responsible as possible.   You are obligated to follow these instructions and ridership guidelines to participate in this service.

  • Stops not currently serviced: 1800 and 2000 Beauregard Street, and 4825 Mark Center Drive. Contact your office manager with questions.
  • The Mark Center Express will consist of one (1) 14-passenger shuttle
  • Existing passes may be used until new passes are generated in September 2020 by Mark Center Services
